Autumn Illuminated Carnival Season
Friday, 02 September 2011 13:14

The Sturminster Newton Carnival marked the start of the Illuminated Carnival Season for the Quarterjacks. Now that we're in Autumn the Dorset Youth Marching Band will be travelling along the South of England, performing in a variety of different carnivals throughout the next two months.

We're all geared up and ready for the first one, which is Blandford Forum, on Saturday 10th September. If you don't see us there though, we'll be in Ringwood, Axminster, Frome, Shaftesbury and Warminster throughout September and October. Keep an eye out for us!

We'll be performing closer to home too, with a couple of events in Wimborne. Check the events calendar for a full list of our upcoming performances.

France 2011 - Final Preparations
Wednesday, 25 May 2011 10:05

The Quarterjacks are making the final preparations for France 2011! We depart on Saturday 28th May and will be heading across the English Channel overnight. We'll leave the ferry early Sunday morning and travel down to the gites in Allonnes, where we'll be staying, just outside of Saumur.

France_crop_thumbWe have a packed week of playing, visiting different sites and friends. We're looking forward to seeing Joyce and Dave who run La Boumelle Gites and put us up for the week, our friends from l'Avenir Allonnais, who are based in Allonnes and l'Elan Saumurois from Saumur, as well as the many people we've met in the past.

We've played in many of the surrounding areas of Saumur and of course Saumur itself and we can't wait to play there again this year! The people we meet in France are always to welcoming and give us such a good reception, this truly is one of the highlights on the Dorset Youth Marching Band's calendar.

We plan to update the site throughout the trip with an account of what we've been up to, so make sure you keep checking back to see who the trip's going!

The Quarterjacks in 2011
Friday, 28 January 2011 11:06

DYMB have a huge year planned! We're kicking off with the biggest ever Massed Bands in Concert with a total of 9 different bands taking to the stage. After taking some time to sharpen up for the year of events, we'll hit the fetes, fairs and events during spring.

As spring turns into summer we'll be in France for a week. The leaders are busy planning the trip and it already looks like it'll top last years trip! We'll hit the ground running upon our return, with local carnivals, fetes and events taking us up to Kingsbridge Camp 2011. We plan to extend the camp this year (as we did last year) and stay until the Tuesday so we can cram more in.

We'll play summer out with the last few carnivals before the Illuminated Carnival season. The Quarterjacks are in their element during these events. We're out weekend after weekend playing to the crowds that gather to watch the spectacular carnivals. As we march toward the end of 2011 and the carnivals are behind us, we'll have a busy December playing in Christmas parades and events.

We are looking for new members, so if you or someone you know wants to be a Quarterjack, or just has an interest in music, come along and try us out!

Waitrose Wimborne - Community Matters
Monday, 15 November 2010 14:35

Waitrose runs a scheme called Community Matters. Every month they have three containers set up in store, in which each customer can place a green token given to them every time they shop. Each container represents one of three charities nominated by the people who shop there.

The Dorset Youth Marching Band, Wimborne's Official Town Band, are proud to have been nomoinated by the people of Wimborne and now have a container with our name in the store.

If you shop in Waitrose through November, please put your tokens in to our container and help the Dorset Youth Marching Band raise funds to continue working with the youth of Wimborne and Dorset, giving young people and children a chance to be a part of a brilliant organisation and community.

Be certain to look out for us during the Christmas period, as we will be making a few appearances in Wimborne Minster!
