Past EventsOn this section of the site you will be able to find a brief description of how our previous events have gone. December 19th - DYMB Christmas Party This marks the final event for DYMB of 2007. For this years party we were in the Corfe Mullen Village Hall. This was a great success, with awards and games. Plenty of food and pop to go around for everybody. Well done to Carl, Charlie, Pete, Mel and Reece for organising such a successful event. They are members of the Junior Committee, which was successfully started in earlier in 2007 and is also responsible for the Halloween Party back on October 31st, another success!
December 8th - Wimborne Christmas Parade This is our final parade of 2007. We marched the Save the Children Christmas Parade through Wimborne, much to the delight of the spectators. We played the Christmas tunes along with our usual array of tunes. The members did very well and were treated to mince pies and refreshments before heading out into the square and playing to the crowds.
December 1st - Broadstone Christmas Parade This is our penultimate parade of the year and our second Christmas parade. The weather was sunny and crisp. We marched around Broadstone with the parade, playing our range of tunes (including our seasonal Christmas tunes!). We had a good attendance for this event, so well done to all!
November 18th - Poole Father Christmas Parade This is the start of our Christmas Season. We start playing the carols and march Father Christmas and his parade to the Dolphin Centre so he can get settled into his Grotto. The weather was taking our earlier Kingsbridge Carnival head on however for the title of "wettest parade in memory", but the parade persevered. After all, Father Christmas isn't going to be put off by a bit of rain is he! Well done to all members for marching on with the Christmas spirit despite the weather!
November 11th - Corfe Mullen Remembrance Day Parade This parade is much like the Broadstone Parade. We marched the parade to St Nicholas Church where the remembrance service is given with a moments silence. Following this we march the parade to the memorial, where another shorter service is given with another moment to remember. Once this has been completed, we march the parade up to the British Legion where we part ways and head home.
November 11th - Broadstone Remembrance Day Parade We started this parade by marching the various organizations that had attended to the memorial in Broadstone. Here there was a short service, followed by two minutes silence. Following that we marched the parade to the Church where the Remembrance service was given, with two minutes silence also. We then marched the parade back to the British Legion where the parade finished. We were then treated to sausages and chips from the British Legion, many thanks! Once we had polished off our meals, we loaded back onto the coach and headed back to Corfe Mullen for the Remembrance Parade there.
November 5th - Poole Quay Fireworks We were asked to come along and play on Poole Quay again this year for the bonfire night festivities. We marched up and down the quay playing our array of tunes to the crowds that had gathered. We stopped just before the fireworks began and fell out to watch them. Shortly after they finished, we headed back to our starting point and headed off home.
October 28th - Warminster Carnival This is the second year that we have been asked to perform in Warminster carnival. This carnival marks the end of the Autumn Carnival Season, the Wessex Grand Prix Circuit of Carnivals as it is known. The carnival itself is an impressive one, with some large illuminated floats and impressive walking displays. We sounded and looked on top form for this event, despite the drizzle rain! Well done to all! Time to prepare for the Christmas season now.
October 13th - Castle Carey Carnival - View the gallery This is another fairly large carnival. When we arrived, we all hopped off the coach for a bite to eat and then began to get ready for the carnival. Once ready we waited for our slot to come round, which was in between two impressive floats and marched our way around Castle Carey. We sounded and looked on top form, trying our best to impress! We even had a few more instances of people singing along to some of our tunes.
October 6th - Illminster Carnival Illminster is probably one of the largest carnivals we perform in. As usual, we went out there to entertain all who were watching. The streets were crowded throughout the majority of the parade with people clapping (and some even singing) along to our music and marching! This carnival was a great success for all that attended. Well done!
September 29th - Shaftesbury Carnival Shaftesbury consists of three events in total. The afternoon parade, the display in the town centre for the Mayor and the evening parade.
September 22nd - Frome Carnival - View the gallery There are two carnivals during the day at Frome. The afternoon parade takes us around the centre of Frome. The evening parade is the longest parade we do all year. Frome doesn't come with out its fair share of hills either! Despite the length, the members played well throughout the entire carnival. Keeping their concentration on the marching and playing, whilst appreciating the applause we were getting from the crowd (not to mention the odd sing along!). Well done to all who attended!
September 15th - Axminster Carnival - View the gallery One our way back from Ringwood, we stopped at Avon Valley for a rest and a bite to eat. Once everybody was refreshed, we headed back to Corfe Mullen to pick up a few more members for Axminster and we were on our way. We arrived at the hall in Axminster and were provided with some sandwiches and drinks before getting ready for the carnival. Once ready we marched down to the starting point of the parade and marched through the streets entertaining the entire way. THe members deserve a pat on the back after such an eventful day!
September 15th - Ringwood Carnival - View the gallery Our first carnival of two carnivals for the day. Some of the DYMB members remember playing at Ringwood back when we were East Dorset Scout Band (we changed 11 years ago!). This was our return to Ringwood and we didn't disappoint. The weather was brilliant and there was a huge variety of floats, performances etc at this carnival. We looked smart and sounded sharp. Onto Axminster! September 8th - Blandford Carnival As with every year, the Blandford Carnival marks the beginning of the autumn carnival season. We went out on top form playing at our best throughout. Our members went out full of pride throughout the streets of Blandford. Well done to all!
September 1st - The Great Dorset Steam Fair After last years mud, the hot, dry day was a welcome relief for the band. We marched around the steam fair, playing and collecting as we went. All the members seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day, as the crowds were stopping to watch us as we marched past. A superb day all round!
August 23rd - Shore Road We returned to Shore Road for our first time this year. We were playing to the crowds that had gathered on the beach for the fireworks and various other attractions. We played and marched our way through the crowds of people at our best. Judging by the applause, we went down extremely well.
August 19th - Bloxworth Street Fair This event is an event held in Bloxworth. They have a few stalls and some other bits and pieces. After all the driving members made it into the Car Park (with a couple getting pushed out of the mud!) we began to set up to march into Bloxworth. We marched around to the social club, where we played a few static pieces before marching down the street to play for all of the other stalls. After a break and some very nice burgers (provided by the organisers, thank you!) we marched back down the street and played a few tunes to the stalls. This was another successful event for DYMB!
August 18th - Sturminster Newton Carnival This event usually consists of two events, a short parade in the afternoon and the main carnival in the evening. However, due to some rather poor weather the afternoon even was cancelled. So we spent the afternoon relaxing and practicing in the hall in Sturminster Newton, before heading out for the evening carnival. We marched through Sturminster Newton, playing our usual selection of tunes and entertaining the crowd (as well as being entertained ourselves by an excellent "Transformer" display in front of us). Despite the rather "wet" looking clouds, the rain held off until we had finished. Well done to all members that attended, we were on top form!
July 27th - 30th - Kingsbridge Camp - View the gallery Our annual camp to Devon to play in the Kingsbridge Carnival. Despite the wind and rain this was yet again a huge success. When we arrived on the Friday we got straight to business to set up the Marquee and the new tents. Once the assembling of accommodation and the kitchen had been completed we all filtered into our various tents to set up our sleeping arrangements and lit a camp fire. Sitting around the camp fire a few new talents were discovered, ranging from singing to beat boxing!
July 19th - Poole Quay We were back on the Quay again this Thursday. This week was a lot busier than previous weeks, presumably because of the school holidays. This was another successful evening for the band.
July 15th - Streetwise We performed at this event last year and returned again this year. It's an event which is held to promote safety on the streets and show what the emergency services do. We marched and played to the crowds twice, which they all seemed pleased about! As well as playing our members get a chance to have a look around the various attractions and events.
July 14th - Leesons 40th Birthday Celebrations Leeson house were lucky with the weather for this event. The Sun was shining all day. We had an unusually low turnout for this event, which meant the members that did attend had to put that little extra in throughout the day. We played two arena events and despite our low numbers we still sounded on top form. Well done to all!
July 12th - Poole Quay We returned to Poole Quay again this week to play to the crowds a couple of times prior to the fireworks. We played and marched our best and drew quite a crowd to watch. Another successful event.
July 1st - Dorset Morris Minor Club, Avon Heath Country Park The Dorset Morris Minor Club were meeting at Avon Heath Country Park and we were invited to come along and play to the visitors. There were plenty of Morris Minor and car enthusiasts around to watch and they certainly seemed to enjoy our playing and marching!
June 29th - Pamphill Farm Shop It was the open day at Pamphill Dairy Farm Shop and we were invited to come along and busk, much to the delight of the customers! We played twice, both times lasted about 20 minutes. We played our usual varied selection of tunes, and also performed some marching and maneuvers. Many thanks to all who popped some of that loose change in the buckets!!
June 24th - Oakdale Community Association Fete We have been performing in this fete for a few years now, and unfortunately this was the worst weather we had seen so far. Although, it didn't seem to affect the spirits of the fete goers! The majority of the fete was located inside the hall this year, so we played just outside the entrance, despite the rain we had quite a crowd watching us and still sounded on top form. Well done! Many thanks to Colin from the Poole Radio Society (www.g4prs.org.uk) who took some photos of us and kindly forwarded them to use on the website.
June 9th - Corfe Mullen Carnival Our first carnival of the year and what a hot day to start on! Despite the heat, the band put everything they could into this carnival and it showed. We lead the carnival through the main road of the rather long village down to the recreation grounds, where there were stalls and attractions for all the carnival goers. The main arena event was unfortunately unable to make it to the carnival, so we were asked to step in and play in the arena. We performed our various tunes and maneuvers which certainly seemed to please the crowd, much to our delight!
May 25th - June 1st - France 2007 - View the gallery An even larger success than last year. Of course such an event can't just be summed up in a paragraph. It needs a page all to itself! Head over to the France page and take a look.
February 18th - Massed Bands in Concert Our annual concert this year was a great success as usual. The bands involved this year were Dolphin Marching Band, Christchurch Scout & Guide Band, Christchurch Royal British Legion Band, Poole Sea Cadets, Pantastic and ourselves of course! We hope that all those of you who watched, or performed, enjoyed themselves thoroughly. I know that Dorset Youth Marching Band certainly did! |
