Another brilliant year for The Quarterjacks. We kicked off 2010 with the excellent Massed Bands in Concert in which seven Dorset bands came together and performed on stage in the Layard Theatre. We then moved swiftly into Spring and hit the fetes and parades. We hosted a new concert, Ben's Celebration Concert, which raised money for the surgery that took care of Ben James, a much loved Quarterjack who sadly passed away in 2009.
As the weather heated up and we moved into summer we returned to Saumur in France after taking a break from France in 2009. This was a brilliant trip. As ever our friends in l'Avenir Allonnais and l'Elan Saumurois were perfect hosts, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We had a few parades and performances after our trip to France, but soon we were off to another brilliant Kingsbridge Camp!
We had a rest for the remainder of summer, with the exception of Bournemouth Carnival, and soon it was Autumn. We hit the Carnival Season with a bang, winning Best Band at both Shaftesbury Carnival and Warminster Carnival!
Soon the carnival season was over and we were in the Festive Season playing Christmas Tunes in our performances.
2010 has been a brilliant year for the band and we can only hope for more of the same for 2011! |

Christmas in Wimborne Square - Friday 24th December 2010 |
|
We, the Wimborne Town Band, set up in the Town Square played an array of pieces to the festive shoppers and community of Wimborne Minster.
We played three times in total, stopping for breaks for hot chocolate at Costa. As we marched back and forth we played festive and more traditional pieces.
The busking was all in aid of the Mayors Charities and we thank the people of Wimborne for their generosity on the day!
2010 has been a brilliant year for The Quarterjacks and we cannot wait for 2011. Until then, Merry Christmas! |

Waitrose Food & Wine Evening - Wednesday 8th December 2010 |
|
Waitrose in Wimborne were in a festive mood this evening as the staff donned Santa hats and handed out free food and drink to customers who came to the store during the Food & Wine evening. We, the Dorset Youth Marching Band, Wimborne's Town Band, were asked if we would like to perform at the store for the evening. We were more than happy to, especially as we were in the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme for November, which has raised the band over £200!
We set up in front of the store and played variety of festive and traditional pieces to the customers and staff. Some of the staff came out and watched, as some of the customers braved the cold and stopped to listen.
The atmosphere was festive and enjoyable! We'll playing in Wimborne again on Saturday as part of the Save the Children Christmas Parade so be sure to look out for us! |

Wimborne Save the Children Christmas Parade - Saturday 11th December 2010 |
|
The Quarterjacks, Wimborne's Town Band, arrived ready and eager to lead the Save the Children Christmas Parade. We marched through the streets of Wimborne Minster blasting out powerful bugle pieces and festive pieces. As we marched through the Town Square, the crowd sang along to Jingle Bells and applauded as the Drum Major performed and even moonwalked as we marched through!
As the parade left the High Street we marched off to the Wimborne Minster Salvation Army HQ where we were treated to Tea, Coffee, Juice, Biscuits and of course, Mince Pies. After our break we put out kit back on and marched pass the Minster Square and back onto the High Street.
The Centre of Wimborne was filled with entertainment. As the Ringwood Pipe Band played in front of the Green, Gugge 2000 played in the Square. The Pipe Band finished playing and we kicked off our set on the High Street as the Wimborne Militia set up on the Green and fired their Muskets. Wimborne Minster was certainly an entertaining place to be on Saturday afternoon. The whole day was great fun and everybody left in a festive mood. The Quarterjacks only have two more events of 2010 and they're both in Wimborne, so if you're in the area, be sure to keep an eye (or an ear) out for us! |

Broadstone Christmas Parade - Saturday 4th December 2010 |
|
Following the recent flurries of snow there was a festive mood throughout Broadstone as we prepared for the 2010 Christmas Parade. We got our kit (complete with tinsel) ready and marched off on the parade playing our traditional and Christmas pieces. The crowd applauded as we marched through the centre of Broadstone blasting out the festive tunes.
This was a brilliant parade for the band, further delving us into the Christmas mood. We will be playing at Waitrose in Wimborne on Wednesday 8th December then the Wimborne Save the Children Christmas Parade on Saturday 11th December. |
