DYMB Christmas Social - December 15th 2006 |
|
This marks the end of the year for banding. This year the social was held in Holmes Place, Corfe Mullen for the first time and it was a great success. The band provided plenty for people to join in with such as giant Jenga, Sumo Wrestling Suits (for young and old as it turned out!), music, party food and giant Connect 4! The band awards were also handed out and good byes were said as the members parted until 2007. |

Wimborne Christmas Parade - December 9th 2006 |
|
This is another of our usual events. This parade is held in support of 'Save the Children'. We are joined every year by another band with which we are friendly, the 'Christchurch Scout and Guide Band'. We had an already good turnout for this event, which was than boosted even more by CSGB (Christchurch). With the two bands playing the large selection of tunes (some each band played, most we played together) we were able to wow the crowd at every chance. This was the last event for the entire band (the tuned percussion section still has some busking to finish!) and it was an excellent way to polish off a year of events. |

Poole Father Christmas Parade - November 19th 2006 |
|
This is the second year now that we have been asked to attend this event. It was 9.15 in the morning, and the majority of the older members were still trying to wake up from the event the day before (if want to know why, read the below account of the Kingsbridge Christmas Extravaganza!). We had some time spare, to took our time getting ready. Once fallen in we headed over to our starting point and played some music whilst the crowd awaited the arrival of Father Christmas. Once the jolly fellow had arrived we marched him and his various escorts over to where the rest of the parade was waiting. As the parade progressed through Poole high street we played along whilst escorting them. Then half the parade goes toward one entrance to the Dolphin Centre and the other half heads toward the other entrance to the Dolphin Centre. We followed and stopped outside the entrance whilst playing a few tunes to the crowds that had gathered. Once we had finished we fell out and headed back to the van to pack away and head home. We had performed extremely well, with plenty of applause from the crowd to keep all the members going! Well done to all!

Broadstone Christmas Parade - December 2nd 2006 |
The Broadstone Christmas parade is an event in which we perform every year. It is local and usually follows a couple of weeks rest. So this is an event that all enjoy doing. It is usually rather cold (although this year it was more wet than cold), but the members enjoy having the opportunity to pump out Christmas tunes and fill the crowds with festive joy. This accompanied by our more regular set of tunes makes for a wide selection of music being played throughout the parade. There was a large crowd, which was willing to join in by clapping and even singing along!

Kingsbridge Christmas Extravaganza - November 18th 2006 |
|
We returned to Kingsbridge to perform in the Christmas Extravaganza this year. We knew it was going to be a long, tiring day and as we had an event the following day in Poole, it was decided that only the older members would attend this event. The day did turn out to be a long one, a fair bit longer than we had thought at first! We left Corfe Mullen as usual at 9.30am and headed over to Kingsbridge, with one stop for refueling the coach, and ourselves with a bite to eat in a cafe. We spent the day in Kingsbridge looking around the fair, the shops and grabbing a drink and a bite to eat, then headed back to the coach to get ready for the parade. We quickly prepared, and headed down to the starting point. We smartly marched through the town performing some simple maneuvers and impressing the crowd with our playing. Once we had completed the parade we headed back to the coach and packed our kit away. Then headed back into town for another bite to eat. Now, after a long tiring day it was home time. We loaded the coach back up and headed back to Corfe Mullen. However, twenty minutes/half and hour out of Kingsbridge and we had stated crawling along the road, and eventually stopped as something clearly wasn't quite right. After an inspection of the problem it was discovered that there was a problem with the accelerator, a problem which was unfixable at that moment in time. As Simon was driving the coach for this event, it meant that we still had an option open to us. Half an hour later Richard (our coach driver) was on his way over to Bournemouth to pick up another coach and head out to pick us up. A few hours later Richard and our coach were here! We quickly unloaded everything from our coach on to the Laguna coach and we were off home... again. We made it home without further incidences at about 4.00am. Everything was quickly thrown into the van, and we headed our separate ways to our beds getting much needed rest for the Poole Father Christmas Parade that was to follow in 5 hours time! I think I speak for all that attended this event when I say a big thank you to Simon for carting us around all day and to Richard for coming out to rescue us! Many Thanks!
