Shaftesbury Carnival - Saturday 1st October 2011

The Quarterjacks kicked off the day by performing in the Shaftesbury Carnival Children's Parade at 3pm playing through our range of pieces as we marched through the route. We stopped for a bite to eat after that, but soon it was time for the Band Parade. Each band took it in turns to march down in front of the Town Hall where they performed to the onlooking judges.

We watched as the other bands, including our friends in the Dolphin Marching Band headed down into the centre to perform their display. Soon it was our turn, we marched into the Centre and performed to the Mayor, Judges and large crowd that had gathered to watch. We gave it our best, and it paid off!

We marched to the start of the parade and joined the Illuminated Carnival on it's route through Shaftesbury's streets. As we reached the Town Hall, we stopped and were awarded two trophies for our earlier display: Best Junior Band Deportment and Best Band Deportment! We marched along the remainder of the route, playing to the crowds and soon we had reached the end of the carnival.

This was a long, but brilliant day for the Dorset Youth Marching Band, made all the better by being awarded with two trophies.

25 Years of Beaver Scouts - Sunday 25th September 2011

The Quarterjacks, Wimborne's Town Band, formed up outside Allenbourne Middle School complete with hundreds of members of the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer and Network ready to march through the streets of Wimborne to the Minster for the service to recognise 25 years of Beaver Scouts.

We played outside of the Minster as the various Scout groups headed inside and then went for a drink whilst the service took place. As we were heading back to meet with the Scout groups again, we sang happy birthday to a group who were celebrating in the garden and received a request for a song by Coldplay, which we happen to know! After a quick rendition, we met up with the parade and headed back through the Wimborne Minster Town Centre blasting out our pieces as we went. Soon we were back at Allenbourne School where we departed and headed back to the van to pack our things away and head home.

It's been a long weekend for the band, but a brilliant one all the same. Next weekend we have a favourite for the Quarterjacks, Shaftesbury Carnival!

Frome Carnival - Saturday 24th September 2011

The Dorset Youth Marching Band took to the streets of Frome for Frome Carnival 2011. The Carnival kicked off from the Industrial Estate and marched through the town to the Frome Town Football Club. We blasted out our powerful pieces as we headed through the town centre to applause from the onlooking crowds.

Frome is one of the longer events of the year, but well worth it! We're looking forward to our next carnival, a favourite for the Quarterjacks, Shaftesbury!

Discovering Dorset - Sunday 25th September 2011

The Quarterjacks perform in their home town of Wimborne Minster to promote Discovering Dorset, which took place in the Allendale Community Centre.

Discovering Dorset was a day of attractions and exhibitions, including an armada of every Royal Navy warship afloat, in service or setting sail since the Second World War... made entirely of matchsticks and wooden matchboxes by master modeller Philip Warren. Along side this spectacular display there were plenty of other interesting attractions including Wimborne Miniatures Group, Minster Broderers, Bobbin Lace making, Wimborne in Bloom, The Priest’s House Museum, Friends of Victoria Hospital Wimborne and many more.

The day was in aid of the Mayoral Charities and we were happy to be a part of it!

Axminster Carnival - Saturday 17th September 2011

The Quarterjacks arrived in Axminster geared up after performing in Ringwood Carnival 2011 earlier in the day. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as kind to Axminster as it had been to Ringwood. We set off in the rain blasting out our pieces as we lead the carnival through the streets of Axminster.

Despite the wet weather, the crowds were lining the streets armed with umbrellas cheering the carnival on as it proceeded.

Another brilliant carnival to end an excellent day. Next week will see the Dorset Youth Marching Band in Frome Carnival 2011 and we'll be performing in our home town of Wimborne Minster.

Keep an eye out for us!
