Meet the Team
The Leadership Team can be found at all the band's events and practice evenings. The leaders are responsible for running the band itself, teaching the members how to march, play and clean thier instruments. The team is there for members when they have any questions or problems, so if you see us out and about and want to find out more about us, just ask one of the team! Most of them have grown up in the band from a young age, so probably know all there is to know about banding!

Simon is the Bandmaster of the Dorset Youth Marching Band. Simon manages the band, the Leadership Team and is a member of the Management Committee. He is a powerful member of the bugle section, and contributes a massive amount of time and effort to the band. DYMB wouldn't be where it is today without Simon.

Doug Fry

Doug joined the band when he was just 4 years old and has been a committed member ever sincedoug. He has played the bugle, bass bugle, side drum and bass drum. His primary instruments in recent years have been the bugle and bass bugle. Doug is also a member of the Management Committee, helping to raise funds for the band.

Doug has fallen victim to an unfortunate joke: "What do you call a man with a spade in his head?.... Dug!", which Sammy has great pleasure in persistently reminding him of! Luckily he is able to move on from such taunting and he is one of the most committed members in the entire band.

Wayne Legg
Wayne

Wayne is the newest addition to DYMB's Leadership Team. Wayne's been involved with youth banding in Dorset for years and we're happy to welcome him to the Quarterjacks!

He is a powerful Bass Bugler and a competent bugler, making him a great addition to the bugle section. Having years of experience he is well versed in the values that marching bands promote so is happy to teach/instruct when required. Wayne is very approachable and friendly, as a result he seems to know most members of every band in Dorset!

Sammy Phillips

sphillips

Sammy joined the band when she was 7 years old. She has always had a passion for music and was incredibly eager to join as soon as she could, as her brother, Scott, had joined the previous year. Sammy started off on bugle, but as soon as she was old enough, moved onto the Bell (Tuned Percussion) Section. She is also in several other music groups, playing an array of different instruments.

Sammy plays both the Bugle and Marching Bell when on parade and has more recently become the band's press contact, so arranges any press releases or articles the band may have. If you need to know anything technical about music, she's the one to ask!

Craig Stanley

cstanley

Craig has been a member of the band since he was 10. He started on the bugle, but after a year it was discovered that he is actually an avid drummer, so he was promptly put on the drums. As he gained experience, both on the kit out of band and on the side drum within band, he was soon Lead Drummer.

Craig spends his time in band instructing the drum section along side the Lead Drummer, Charlie. Craig also plays the Bass Drum, which is mostly shared between Craig and Nick.

Peter Torevelle

ptorevelle

Pete, aka 'Bolt', joined DYMB when he was 14, starting on the Bugle. Soon he moved onto the Tenor Drum and eventually the Side Drum. Pete is now the Band's Drum Major. This is a big role to fill and requires a large amount of self confidence, which Pete certainly doesn't lack.

He has been a part of on stage performances in several productions and has performed as part of the Company of the Wimborne Musical Theatre. He performed during the 'Holly Dolly' production that DYMB played in during June 2009.

Kirsty Webster

kwebster

Kirsty has been in the band since she was 7. She swapped around on instruments a fair bit in her early years, but has been able to settle on the Marching Bell for the majority of her time in band. As Kirsty is so approachable, she can usually be found dealing with the younger girls in the band, from sorting out their hair to teaching them how to play their instruments.

Nick has been part of the band since his childhood. He is Simon's brother and is married to Emma. He can play the Bass Bugle and the Bass Drum and is one of the most experienced members in band. He's really not as scarey as he looks in the picture!

As well as being a committed member of the band, Nick is an executive member of the Management Committee, helping with the overall running of DYMB.
