Shaftesbury Carnival - Saturday 1st October 2011
The Quarterjacks kicked off the day by performing in the Shaftesbury Carnival Children's Parade at 3pm playing through our range of pieces as we marched through the route. We stopped for a bite to eat after that, but soon it was time for the Band Parade. Each band took it in turns to march down in front of the Town Hall where they performed to the onlooking judges.
We watched as the other bands, including our friends in the Dolphin Marching Band headed down into the centre to perform their display. Soon it was our turn, we marched into the Centre and performed to the Mayor, Judges and large crowd that had gathered to watch. We gave it our best, and it paid off!
We marched to the start of the parade and joined the Illuminated Carnival on it's route through Shaftesbury's streets. As we reached the Town Hall, we stopped and were awarded two trophies for our earlier display: Best Junior Band Deportment and Best Band Deportment! We marched along the remainder of the route, playing to the crowds and soon we had reached the end of the carnival.
This was a long, but brilliant day for the Dorset Youth Marching Band, made all the better by being awarded with two trophies.
